If You Believe in Jesus, Then Isn’t Religion Wrong?

You cannot claim the Kingdom is both ‘within you’ and also dependent on a future external arrival. Jesus repeatedly redirected attention away from outward signs and toward inward transformation. His message was not about waiting for a visible earthly return, but about realizing the divine presence already within.

Luke 11:52

“Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.”

 Jesus is criticizing religious authorities for blocking people from spiritual understanding.

 

Interpretation of Luke 11:52

Jesus says the religious leaders:

• removed the “key of knowledge,”
• failed to enter themselves,
• and prevented others from entering.

The important phrase is:

“them that were entering in…”

Entering into what?

• entering into spiritual understanding,
• entering into the Kingdom,
• entering into direct awareness of God.

This matches Luke 17:21 where Jesus says:

“The kingdom of God is within you.”

This means the “key of knowledge” is:

• inner spiritual realization,
• awakening to divine truth,
• understanding the inward Kingdom.

If religious leaders removed the “key,” then Jesus is implying:

• truth was already accessible,
• but institutional religion obscured it.

It supports the argument that the Kingdom is not a future external event, but a present spiritual reality people fail to perceive.
